What’s in a Name?

Snapshot - A photograph taken quickly, usually of a person
-also, a look at a moment in time, (Example, a snapshot of current
economic conditions.)

Why it’s important.

The name Snapshot can mean many things, not just the obvious
photographic meanings. While some view a snapshot as
photography at it’s most amateurish, there is a trend in
artistic and commercial photography circles towards a snapshot
look, off kilter, often out of focus, spontaneous. Capturing a
mood rather than a slick image.

The other primary meaning, a look at a moment in time, gets to the core of
what Snapshot Café & Art Bar is all about.

The theme of Snapshot is a synergy between those who love photography and
the arts, the love of gourmet coffee, beer and wine and great food. We’ve
created a gathering place that brings those loves together.

It has an atmosphere that’s comfortable and funky, with the lighting and
pastries of a cafe in Paris, the casual air of a beach bar in the islands,
the coffee aroma and jazz music of a bistro in the French Quarter. The
latest in photography and other under appreciated art forms on the walls
and shelves. The buzz created by the adjoining commercial photography
studio and it’s staff of award winning photographers. A place to offer a
forum for the discussion of photography and the arts, religion and
politics. For students to surf the internet and study in a stimulating
creative environment. For social gatherings around a table with draft
beers, wine and eclectic foods from our menu.

The look....

The oak and corrugated steel bar glows with light from the overhead
tracks. Dangling amber lights create pools of illumination over the dark
wood tables.
Shelters with corrugated tin roofs give the booth areas their own identity
and privacy, also controlling noise levels so that there is more
opportunity for intimate conversation. A look of classic neon in the
front windows, and a funky neon sign on the building facade, with a
message sign below it to advertise special events.
